Keeping our Vision
A NMRC program to provide no cost Eyeglasses/Readers for close and/or near vision correction purposes.
HOW WE CAN HELP
NMRC can provide free reading glasses for Native American/American Indian families and individuals, who reside within the Nebraska Panhandle.
Over 500 Million people need non-prescription reading glasses to correct their vision. Lack of glasses is one of the main barriers preventing them from seeing better!
Reading and/or near vision correction glasses can have a profound impact on those who need readers but are unable to afford them. Some positive effects of restored vision can be:
Reading glasses immediately correct close-range vision problems, enabling a person to see clearly again, dramatically improving health and well-being.
When people are able to see clearly, they are also able to read and learn. Adults can successfully participate in continuing education and workforce training.
Seeing clearly is essential to maintaining one’s safety. With clear close-range vision, a person can perform his or her daily tasks – including caring for one’s child, cooking and working – in a safe and effective way.
Studies have shown that vision correction leads to a 35% increase in productivity and a 20% increase in wages.
With a pair of reading glasses, people can carry out their daily tasks, work and lead productive lives again.
The ability to see clearly impacts all areas of one’s life, including one’s self-esteem. Glasses enable a person to be a fully productive member of his or her family and community again. This increases the overall quality of a person’s life.
