Dr. Doreen Bird

NMRC's "Chunte Wo Washake" Suicide prevention project welcomes our new consultant and trainer Doreen Bird PhD.


Dr. Doreen Bird is from Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM. She has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Masters in Public Health and a Doctorate in Justice Studies. She has worked in the realm of suicide prevention for 20 years. As a tribal member and mother of 6 children, she combines her academic training, Indigenous Knowledge and lived experience in her approach to public health and suicide prevention. Her hobbies include spending time with family, visiting natural hot springs, & participating in her cultural activities and ceremonies. 



We look forward to Dr. Birds expertise and the contributions she will provide for our SAMHSA Native Connections Project throughout the next two years!
